Prime Minister Narendra Modi, replying to the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address, took a swipe at the Congress by citing a book on the former U.S. President John F Kennedy. PM Modi said those eager to comment on foreign policy should first read the book titled JFK's Forgotten Crisis. The book details the events before and after the 1962 India-China war. In particular, the book delves into the interaction between then-President Jawaharlal Nehru and U.S. President John F Kennedy. It also contains JFK's observations and his view that Nehru seemed more interested in striking up a conversation with his wife Jackie Kennedy and his 27-year-old sister Pat Kennedy.

Arvind Kejriwal has a lot riding on the 2025 Delhi Assembly election result. While he is fighting to get a third full term in Delhi, he is also facing anti-incumbency on account of 10 years of Aam Aadmi Party rule in the national capital. A rejuvenated BJP and Congress have been challenging Kejriwal&rsquo;s dominance among Delhi voters.

Despite the political churn of an election season, Kejriwal is banking on some key factors to fire in his favour. Factors that work for Kejriwal include the expansion of freebies including direct transfers to women and healthcare for the elderly. When the BJP and Congress reacted with even bigger promises, they appeared to be playing the catch-up game. The core voters of the AAP - comprising Purvanchalis, Dalits and Muslims &ndash; have passed several tests of loyalty. Even the BJP&rsquo;s traditional Punjabi-Baniya vote has backed the AAP during Assembly polls.

This time, if the BJP can swing the Punjabi-Baniya vote, the scales could tilt for the saffron party. What would worry the AAP is its shrinking vote share and victory margins. First between the 2015 and 2020 Assembly elections. And then a similar decline in support between the 2020 Assembly results and the 2024 Lok Sabha election. The AAP cannot overlook the fact that since 2014, Delhi has given all 7 Lok Sabha seats to the BJP in three successive general elections. But breaching &lsquo;Fortress Kejriwal&rsquo; could still prove to be a tall order for the BJP or Congress. Kejriwal enjoys such a long headstart in the politics of freebies and disruption, that he could yet again surge ahead, provided his X factor clicks.

Will X Factors Save Kejriwal?

Rekha Gupta has taken charge as the Chief Minister of Delhi after her swearing-in at the Ramlila Maidan. She is the fourth woman CM in the national capital. Along with her, six ministers also took oath.

The BJP picked Rekha Gupta to lead its first government in Delhi in 27 years after considering many long term factors.
&nbsp;
First, women voters have played a key role in recent BJP victories from Haryana to Maharashtra to Delhi. But the BP, despite ruling in 14 states/UTs and five with allies, till today didn't have a woman chief minister. So, Delhi provided a chance for the BJP to send out a pan-India signal to its women supporters.

Second, even though Arvind Kejriwal and AAP lost the Delhi election, he tried to project himself as the leader of the bania trading class. Given the huge influence that the trading community has in Delhi, being from a bania family became an advantage for Rekha Gupta to be BJP's choice for CM.

Third, it sends out a message to the cadre that the party takes care of those who silently toil to rise through the ranks.

Fourth, and not the least is Rekha Gupta's record of aggressively countering Kejriwal. The party saw in her the ability to take on a hostile Opposition and defend her ground.

And on the first day in the office, her cabinet has taken two decisions. First, ₹5 lakh top-up has been approved for beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi. Second, 14 CAG reports, ignored by the previous government, will be tabled in the first Assembly session.

How BJP Picked Rekha Gupta For Delhi CM’s Post

Among the 15 guarantees that Arvind Kejriwal promised, in 2025 to the people of Delhi, was a scheme to fund the full costs of higher studies of Dalit students in foreign universities.

It was an expansion of AAP's 2019 scholarship scheme under which Dalit students were offered funding between ₹10 lakh and ₹20 lakh for higher education courses like M.Phil. PhD, LLM and M.Tech.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
An RTI filed by JIST revealed that only 6 Dalit students from Delhi were sent abroad by the previous AAP government for higher studies in the four years from 2020 to 2024. Against the promised ₹5 crore annual fund, only ₹2.15 crore was allocated in four years. The amount utilised was just ₹30 lakh.

Despite the 2019 scheme having flopped, Kejriwal went ahead during the 2025 Delhi election campaign to promise an expanded version of the earlier scheme.

He promised that if AAP government were to get re-elected, it would fund the 'full expenses' of the higher studies of Dalit students in foreign universities. The 'full expense' in Kejriwal's words would include tuition fees, flight charges, staying and boarding costs on foreign soil of the selected Dalit students.

That was back during his days with 'India Against Corruption' between 2011 and 2014. But today, the wheel has come full circle. A CAG report has pointed out that the Delhi Government suffered losses of ₹2,000 crore due to liquor policy of the previous AAP government. The report outlines how the recommendations of the Expert Committee were ignored by Delhi's former excise minister Manish Sisodia.

The CAG report has flagged violations in the process of issuing liquor licences. It is among the 14 reports against the previous Aam Aadmi Party government, which the BJP said had not been tabled in the Delhi Assembly.
